Monitors, Managers, MDS and MON/MGR Placement

The eEKAS Cluster Status page includes tabs for Monitors, Managers, MDS and MON/MGR Placement. These views explain which cluster services are active and where important Ceph roles are running.

Ceph Monitors

Monitors tab

Monitors maintain the cluster map and quorum. In the test cluster, all five nodes were quorum members:

  • EEKASBG-1, rank 0, 192.168.0.21:6789
  • EEKASBG-2, rank 1, 192.168.0.22:6789
  • EEKASBG-3, rank 2, 192.168.0.23:6789
  • EEKASBG-4, rank 3, 192.168.0.24:6789
  • EEKASBG-5, rank 4, 192.168.0.25:6789

The tab also showed Total Monitors: 5 and Monmap Epoch: 5.

Ceph Managers

Managers tab

Managers provide monitoring and management services for the Ceph cluster. The test cluster showed active manager EEKASBG-1.ynuwsd and standby managers on EEKASBG-2, EEKASBG-3, EEKASBG-4 and EEKASBG-5.

MDS Services

MDS tab

MDS services are relevant for CephFS metadata operations. The test cluster showed no active MDS and standby MDS count 0. This is acceptable when no CephFS-backed services depend on MDS.

MON/MGR Placement

MON/MGR Placement tab

The placement tab shows which nodes should run Monitor and Manager daemons and which labels are currently present. The test cluster showed EEKASBG-1 with _admin, mon, mgr and osd labels, and EEKASBG-2 through EEKASBG-5 with mon, mgr and osd labels.

Operational Checklist

Check Expected Result
Monitor quorum Stable and includes the expected monitors.
Manager state One active manager and suitable standby coverage.
MDS state Healthy if CephFS services are used; otherwise empty can be normal.
Placement Critical roles distributed across suitable nodes.
Alerts No actionable MON, MGR or MDS warnings.

Support Notes

When reporting cluster control-plane issues, include screenshots or copied status from Ceph Status, Monitors, Managers and MON/MGR Placement. Also include the node count, affected node and the time the issue started.
