Glossary

• Virtual switch: A virtual switching object used for VM connectivity.
• Common switch: A switch intended to exist across relevant cluster nodes.
• Virtual network: A higher-level administrative object used for organisation and management.
• Intended state: The expected SDN configuration.
• Live state: The current runtime SDN configuration.
• Drift: A mismatch between intended state and live state.
• Reconciliation: The process of restoring live state to intended state.
• Profile: A reusable set of VM interface settings.
• Uplink: A physical network connection assigned to a virtual switch.
• Bonded connection: A grouped uplink configuration used for resilience or multi-link operation.

OVS bond: Multiple uplinks managed as one Open vSwitch connection; the default is active-backup.
RSTP: Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol, enabled by default to reduce loop risk.
LACP: Link Aggregation Control Protocol; disabled by default for eEVOS virtual-switch bonds.
Cluster Network Manager: The highly available OVN control-plane and floating-address workflow used for distributed switches.
ACL profile: A reusable set of OVN access-control rules that can be applied to switches or through VM networking workflows.
