Snapshots - Overview and Concepts

Snapshots provide point-in-time recovery points for eEKAS storage. They are useful before maintenance, before larger data changes and as part of a regular operational protection plan.

What the overview shows

  • Resource Name identifies the share, target or storage resource protected by snapshots.
  • Volume Name shows the underlying volume.
  • Type shows the filesystem or storage type.
  • Number of Snapshots and Last Snapshot show the current protection state.
  • Schedule indicates whether automatic snapshots are configured.

Typical workflow

  1. Open Snapshots from the eEKAS menu.
  2. Review existing resources and snapshot counts.
  3. Create an on-demand snapshot before risky changes.
  4. Create a schedule for production resources.
  5. Periodically verify retention, restore procedures and available capacity.

Operational guidance

  • Snapshots are not a replacement for external backup.
  • Keep retention aligned with available capacity.
  • Test restore procedures before relying on snapshots for production recovery.
