When transferring data over the network and especially over a VPN internet connection there are several important things to keep in mind
1. Bandwidth
Transferring files over Internet VPN connection can be challenging. Many replication programs are not capable of defining the used bandwith. During data replication the whole bandwith will be used which can block the internet connection. Other applications or users will be unable to use the connection.
2. Data Compression
Data compression is a very useful option when transferring data over the network. When used, data will be compressed prior sending over the network. This can speed up the data replication significately.
3. Byte-level incremental replication
When byte-level incremental replication is used only the changed bytes of the file will be transferred. This increases the backup duration significately. With this feature it is possible to reliably replicate terrabytes of data within minutes.
4. Capacity of the backup server
Capacity of the backup server depends on the amount of backups and days that you wish to keep.
If for example you wish to backup 1 TB Server and keep 10 backups the backup server should be at least 10 TB.
5. Severity of backups
With euroNAS replication software it is possible to schedule daily or hourly backups
6. Reporting
After each replication job euroNAS creates transfer protocol – optionaly the administrator can receive report email after each replication job
